Double Shot Series Rocks Madras

Saturday 6/16 marked a milestone in the 2007 race season, an actual race date where rain was not threatening to ruin the eveings festivities! It has been a wet season so far, but on this day we were not only able to get in the show but were treated to some excellent racing despite the abnormally high winds blowing off the Cascades. We'll jump right to the results:

In the Sportsman class it was Trent Elliot taking the win in the Trophy Dash in his 4 car, with Donald Schott winning the main in the 1 car. Mike Kilby and Brian Casey finished second and third in what was an exciting main to witness.

With the Double Shot Series in town, we just knew there would be thrills and spills to report on and of course we got just what we expected! The wingless Sprints put on a great show, with Joe Bosso Jr. taking the Trophy Dash victory in the 69 car. In the main there was a fair amount of passing, with the field getting bunched up mid race as track owner Scott Arnold succumbed to a brake failure after showering a rooster tail of sparks 30 to 40 feet behind his 07 car. When the yellow was thrown Arnold was unable to get whoa'd up in time and he tangled with another Sprinter which caused the only turnover of the race. Scott snap rolled his ride for a near perfect 540 and was safely removed from the overturned car with no injuries. In the B main it was Roy Crouch taking the win in the 53, with Gary Davis running the 30 into second and Pat Canfield rounding out the top three in the 29 car.
In the A main Keary Morris ran hard for the win in the 11x, with Series promoter Mike McCann piloting the 73 into a smooth second and Mark "The Candy Man" Hinkle finishing third in the 9 car. Great show folks!!

In the Midgets, it was AJ Tipton who dominated the evening with his A Main win, while Lance Hallmark and Tom Lauzon rounded out the top three in the 8 and 65 cars. Pete Bittrolf took the Trophy Dash victory in the 15 car.

In the Madras Supers it was "Rockin" Shaun Mayea taking a Main win in the 36 with an inspired drive. Dan Gilder ran the 6 car into second and "Super Doug" Packard nothed another podium finish with a third place effort in the 20 car. We did lose two cars in the main as the 38 of Thomas Hunziker and the 31 of Therese Kilby got nocked together coming off 4 and both went head on into the wall on the front stretch. Both cars were severely shortened up, with the 31 cars chassis being a total write off.

The Famous Madras Juniors put on a good show as young Clint Arne recovered from an early race setback and battled back from the rear of the field to take a second place finish, not far behind the hard charging "Dusty Dev", Devyn Kilby in her 38 car. Jeremy Short took third in the 21 car in the Main and won the Trophy Dash.

In the Mini Trucks and cars, it was Jim Stipe taking the Trophy Dash and Main win for cars in the 28, with Kenney " The Purple People Eater" Keefer taking second in the 6 car. In the Trucks Spencer "Go Go" Stegman had a sweep of his own, taking the Trophy and Main wins, while Thomas "Hot Sauce" Hunziker ran second and Doug "Leadfoot" Slaven ran third in the 38 and 8 trucks.

All in all it was a very exciting evening of racing and despite the chilly wind everyone had an excellent time! Keep your eye on the schedule for more spectacular events as the weather and the racing action gets even hotter at the fastest little short track west of the Mississippi, Madras Speedway!
